THE SIGMA AF 50-500 mm f/ 4-6.3 APO HSM EX DG RF
Subjective impressions:
THE SIGMA AF 50-500 mm f/ 4-6.3 APO HSM EX DG RF is a splendid telephoto zoom lens covering all the necessary focal lengths for street photography.
It enables you to shoot a scene and to use this very scene as a background for a face portrait! =)
It has a very fast (for a telephoto lens) autofocus motor! It is especially noticeable when compared with the Canon 100-400...
Image
I use it with the B+W F/-PRO filter and judge an image quality with this filter.
The image quality is superb, sharpness is decent when wide open, and on stopping down a few stops, it is ideal...
It produces amazingly pleasant and even beautiful bokeh, though telephoto lenses have very poor bokeh, as a rule...
The Sigma AF 50-500 mm f/ 4-6.3 APO HSM EX DG RF has very good color rendering! Colors are very rich and saturated!
While shooting, it is desirable to use a tripod or monopod, otherwise you are likely to take a blurred picture in tele position. But it is not a shortcoming - at 500 mm exposure should be no less than 1/500, and preferably 1/1000 =)
Build:
This is a well assembled large lens with the filter diameter of 86 mm!!!
It has a very convenient limiter, which fulfills two functions:
1 - zoom limitation from 100 mm to 500 mm to be used with a teleconverter
2 - zoom fixation at 50 mm so that the barrel does not extend under its weight...
No part dangles or creaks...
Build shortcomings:
The handle of tripod ring peels off.
The bayonet mount for a hood is plastic and we managed to break off a part of the mount, but the hood is well attached anyway...
The only serious shortcoming of the lens is its size and weight. 2 kg + body with a battery block - that's too much...
Delivery kit
Besides a box and manuals, the Sigma AF 50-500mm f/4-6.3 APO HSM EX DG RF comes completed with a case for storing and carrying the lens, a petal hood and a broad shoulder strap...
Sigmais an interesting and very controversial lens manufacturer. Every Sigma lens should be very carefully chosen and examined, and only in this case you can scoop an excellent lens...
