Additional information:
The Nikon AF Nikkor 35 mm f/ 2 D is a very compact wide-angle fast prime lens prime for 35 mm Nikon FX and DX digital cameras and for 35 mm film cameras.
It is a good variant concerning a price-quality relationship.
It is possible to use it on DX cameras as a kit lens with a focal length of 52 mm.
The maximum aperture ratio of f/2 enables shooting with a very shallow depth of field, as well as shooting in low-level-light conditions.
The lens is not very sharp at f/ 2. It is sharp from f/ 3.5. The fall of resolution is visible at the borders of the frame when used on digital cameras.
Vignetting is noticeable, but only at f/ 2.0. From f/2.8 onwards vignetting is almost invisible.
When focusing, the front element of the NIKON AF NIKKOR 35 mm f/2 D does not rotate, which enables the use of a polarizing and a gradient filter. Manual adjustment of sharpness is possible at any time by rotating the focus ring. The focus ring does not operate very smooth.
Autofocusing is rather fast, but noisy. In low-level-light conditions autofocusing may sometimes function unsteadily.
Color rendering is natural with slightly increased saturation. Contrast is average.
The lens is not well resistant to back and side light, so the use of a hood is recommended.
The NIKON AF NIKKOR 35mm f/2D lens is a good kit lens for everyday use. It is suitable for candid, genre and wedding photography. On the whole, 35 mm is one of the most convenient and versatile focal lengths.
Compatible hood: HN-3
