Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM is a standard 5x zoom lens equipped with a 2-stop optical image stabilizer for 35 mm Canon EF digital and film SLR cameras. The ring-type USM ensures fast and silent autofocusing which can be manually corrected at any moment (FTM). The system of internal focusing enables the use of polarizers. The optical scheme uses one aspherical lens to provide sharpness throughout the entire zoom range.
The Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM provides very convenient focal lengths for FF cameras, and not in vain was its crop factor copy (17-85) later produced. It can be useful as a travel zoom lens. A crop factor camera lacks for a wide angle and requires an extra wide-angle lens. It is necessary to prevent this lens of the pre-digital era from back light or to reduce contrast.
The stabilizer is weak - it is the second Canon lens equipped with a stabilizer, but however it helps in some way, especially at the long end. At a focal length of 135 mm it features a magnification ratio of 0.25 from a close distance and thus can be used for amateur macrography.
When shooting at 135 mm from a minimum distance (as compared to infinity), the angle gets wider, as at about 100 mm. The Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM has a minimum size at a focal length of 28 mm and extends by 3 cm at a focal length of 135 mm.
Rotation angle of the focus ring is about 120 degrees. No limiter for infinity. The distance scale has infrared focal length designations.
The Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM is compatible with any Canon camera produced since 1987.
