The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II was produced as a kit lens for Сanon EOS 350D  or 20D cameras  as  a crop factor analog  of a 28-90 mm lens and is remarkable for its quite satisfactory image quality and at the same time very low price. The lens may boast a plastic body, a dangling inner barrel, focusing with a rotating front element and a conventional micro-motor. All these factors characterize it as a low-end lens. Barrel distortion, visible at the wide angle end, and vignetting are easily corrected in a standard editor whereupon splices of panoramas joining are not conspicuous. For lack of more expensive lenses, it is fit for shooting landscapes, as well as for portraiture and macrography. It features a minimum weight and rather fast autofocus owing to a small angle of the front group rotation.
