The SLR Magic Hyperprime 12mm f/1.6 is a superwide-angle fast prime lens in metal casing with fully manual focusing and aperture control for Micro Four Thirds interchangeable lens cameras. It is the fastest lens ever with the focal length of 12 mm. It is the fifth SLR Magic MFT lens.
The optical scheme of the lens consists of 12 elements in 10 groups, including 3 Tantalum glass elements to achieve the highest cinematographic quality. The filter does not rotate.
Technically, the lens ensures sharpness at the frame center at maximum aperture stops, but on the frame edges the image is rather soft. The image quality is really very high over the range of f/ 4 - f/5.6. Diffraction reduces resolution from f/ 8 onwards due to physical limitations.
Halation and flare may occur when wide open. Slight stopping will help to get rid of this drawback. Barrel distortion does not exceed 1.26%. Chromatic aberration is insignificant.
The Magic HyperPrime 12mm F1.6 is to be on sale at authorized dealers in November, 2011. Price - about 500$.
