The Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM is a professional super magnifying zoom lens with a wide range (10-11x) of zooming. It also features a high level of dust and moisture protection. It allows photographers to reduce lens changes and the number of lenses they need to carry.
The image stabilizer is able to detect a lack of movement, so it can remain in the ON position on a tripod. The IS has two modes:

standard mode, correcting motions for static scenes (horizontal and vertical stabilization)

panning mode, correcting motion along the vertical axis (independent of the lens orientation).
