The Tamron SP 24-70mm F2.8 Di VC USD (Model A007) is a standard fast full-format zoom lens, equipped with a moving-coil image stabilizer.
The optical scheme of the lens includes17 elements in 12 groups, including three ED elements, three molded aspherical elements, one hybrid aspherical element and two XR (Extra Refractive Index) glass elements.
Ring-type Ultrasonic Drive (USD) autofocusing with a piezoelectric element generates ultrasonic vibration in the stator metal ring, and vibration energy rotates the rotor metal ring adjoining the stator.
As for the lens resolution, it is a bit superior to the first Canon 24-70, but inferior to the second model.
The Tamron SP 24-70 mm f/ 2.8 Di VC USD features moisture-resistant design.
Evaluation of Tamron designations:
-
SP (Super Performance) - highest quality (as compared to Tamron standard lenses) professional lenses lineup
-
AF - autofocus
-
Di (Digitally integrated) - optimized for full-format digital cameras (max. frame size - 24х36 mm)
-
VC - Tamron 3-D Vibration Compensation stabilizer
-
XR - Extra Refractive Index glass can bend light rays at steeper angles, thereby decreasing the physical length of the lens while enhancing imaging performance by minimizing optical aberrations
-
LD - "Low Dispersion" elements decreasing aberrations and increasing contrast
-
ASL - one or several aspherical lenses
-
IF - internal focusing (the lens does not extend, the front element does not rotate)
-
USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) - Ultrasonic Drive (USD) focusing with full-time manual override
