Additional information:
The Nikon Nikkor-S 55 mm f/ 1.2 non-Ai is an ultra fast standard lens for 35 mm SLR Nikon F cameras.
Serial numbers of the first release 970111 - 985380 (1965-1967), the second release 184711 - 215657 (1967-1971), the third release 220001 - 240533 (1971-1972). All lenses have no AI-connection, but there are a lot of update lenses on sale.
It features wonderful bokeh (background blurring), which is result of great lens speed (Nikon never produced serial lenses with greater lens speed).
It is made from metal and glass - a really durable build.
The Nikon Nikkor-S 55 mm f/ 1.2 non-Ai lens is perfect for portrait photography - soft when wide open.
When stopping down, it is sharp and is suitable for any other type of photography, especially when a shallow depth of field is required.
Remarkable feature:having used for some time the Nikon Nikkor-S 55 mm f/ 1.2 non-Ai and the Nikon Nikkor 55 mm f/ 1.2 Ai, which at first sight have no differences (I have even compared the travel of focus rings), I found it much more difficult for me to shoot with the non-Ai lens - inaccurate focusing, more defective photos ... I can't find any scientific explanation to the fact, it just happened like that... Besides, the non-Ai lens I used was quite normal, without defects, and some pictures I had taken with it were all right... As a result, I have kept the Nikon Nikkor 55 mm f/ 1.2 Ai, though objectively I can't say any bad things about the Nikon Nikkor-S 55 mm f/ 1.2 non-Ai ... I somehow didn't get on with it...)))
Besides, as I pointed it out in the Nikon Nikkor 55 mm f/ 1.2 Ai review, the lens is rather difficult to find, especially in good condition, because this modification had been produced for a year only. I think that I did not manage to get along with the non-Ai lens because I had long worked with the Ai lens before. Besides, working with a non-Ai you should bear in mind some peculiarities. In my strong opinion, you'll get the knack in due course (especially if you don't have much experience of working with such lenses, as I had with the Ai modification), and everything will be OK.
