| Additional information:
The Nikon AF Nikkor 35-70 mm f/ 2.8 is a legendary fast zoom lens for Nikon FX, DX digital cameras, as well as for 35 mm film cameras.
It differs from the Nikon AF NIKKOR 35-70 mm f/ 2.8D modification in impossibility to transmit distance information to the camera.
It is a good variant concerning a price-quality relationship.
The equivalent focal length on DX sensors is 52 -105 mm.
The Nikon AF NIKKOR 35-70mm f/2.8 uses the draw tube system of changing focal lengths (push-pull system), i.e. you change a focal length by pushing or pulling a part of the lens, without rotating a ring. It is not a drawback - after some practice, the speed and efficiency of changing focal lengths may increase.
The Nikon AF NIKKOR 35-70 mm f/ 2.8 pros: Beautiful, rather sharp and at the same time flexible image with harmonious bokeh. High contrast and resolution. The f/2.8 aperture is fully functional and enables shooting with a shallow depth of field and in low-level-light conditions. Solid metal build. Very good optical quality.
Despite the absence of ED and aspherical elements, chromatic aberrations are almost negligible. Well resistant to back and side light. Rather fast and steady focusing. . The Nikon AF NIKKOR 35-70mm f/2.8 is suitable as a casual kit lens for 35 mm cameras.
It is fit for candid, genre and wedding photography. It is almost perfect for portraiture.
ATTENTION: autofocus operates on screw drive cameras only!

Period of use: 3 monthsStrengths:
Sharp; Contrasty; interesting colour saturation and vibrance;
Pretty on the vivid side;
I like the 7 Blade Diaphragm and it´s depht of field and bokeh.
0,0 Disortion @ 48mm; Disortion has a very classic and artful style overall;
Compact, absolutely professionally built;
Short zoom range is very comfortable to use;
Manual Focus is big and easy to adjust;
With a 6T close up lens macro reaches 1:1
Weaknesses:
Handelble Chromatic abberation.
I use very high quality Filters ( example: Hoya HD UV Digital 62mm for Color Negative Film ) which can control
colour inconsistensies in critical cases.
Use the Lenshood ---> originally Nikon HB-1
Other Zooms with bigger front elements may gather more light; but for this Dimension the 35-70/2.8 is a
light sucker.
Comments:
This is a review for 35mm Film.
I added example Pictures I took with my Nikon F5.
I don´t own a digital camera and can´t reverence this lens for digital photography.
