The Sony 500mm f/8 Reflex (SAL-500F80) is the first autofocus catadioptric telephoto lens with high magnification ratio. It features a light weight and small dimensions due to the use of catadioptric design.
The lens delivers high resolution with minimum chromatic aberrations. Rather fast autofocus (the first AF to be used in SLR lenses). Focus hold button.
Rear mounted filters. Front filters are possible but undesirable due to loss of quality.
The Sony SAL-500F80 500 mm f/ 8 Reflex exposure is controlled by the shutter and neutral filters. No depth of field scale. Incompatible with Sony teleconverters.
Bokeh has doughnut-shaped spots, which is characteristic for catadioptric lenses.
