Additional information:
The Tamron SP 90 mm F/2.8 Di Macro VC USD (model F004) is a medium prime lens for various 35 mm DSLR autofocus systems. The lens is suitable for macro photography.
It is the following generation of the 90 mm macro lens, released in 2008, with fully redesigned optical scheme. The lens features optical stabilization (VC for vibration control) and an ultrasonic drive motor (USD) designed for full-frame 35 mm SLR cameras.
The fully redesigned optical scheme comprises 14 elements in 11 groups, including two XLD (extra low dispersion) and one LD (low dispersion) elements combating chromatic aberrations. The lens features the new eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating. This is Tamron's new nanotechnology coating designed for efficiently reducing undesired flare and ghosting. The circular aperture retains its almost rounded form even after going down two stops from its wide open position.
The lens also boasts the Internal Focusing (IF) system, which focuses without protruding the front elements. Thus, the overall lens length does not change during focus operations, providing a convenient working distance. The moisture-resistant construction helps prevent moisture from penetrating the lens.
The Sony version does not have optical stabilization since Sony DSLRs have stabilization in the camera body (via a sensor shift mechanism) rather than in the lens.
