The Asahi (Pentax) Super-Takumar 85mm f/1.9 is one of the best portrait Pentax lenses with one-layer coating for M42 mount. It reproduces natural clear colors.

From 1962 till 1964 there were two versions of this lens in the first experimental version with the minimal 22 aperture.
The lens Super-Takumar 85 mm f/ 1.9 was introduced in 1962. 1964-1971 – the period of lens serial production. As all Japanese lenses of Super Takumar series this lens is notable for great quality and excellent assembly. Focusing is made manually. When focusing ring in motion the ring drive is smooth and without any jerks and creak.
The lens is made of glass and metal. It has metal front lens cap and metal hood carving. Back cap is plastic.
The lens Asahi Pentax Super-Takumar 85mm f/1.9 is great for portrait shooting. The picture on opened aperture is soft (as it needed for the portrait) but it is not “soapy” and in the same time visually balanced with wonderful volume.
The lens is full-frame it means that it is good for the cameras with 24x36 mm frame size but it is also good for the cameras with smaller frame (crop-factor). It can transform in 135 mm telephoto lens, e.g. for Canon crop camera
If you change standard focus screen on the screen with wings and microrast you will get maximal comfort from the usage of this lens.
Super-Takumar 85mm f/1.9 is very successful portrait lens model especially in use with 1.9 – 2.8 apertures. From now on the number of blades plays a certain part (the total number is 6) and sometimes some kind of shape deformation happens.
