Additional information:

The Canon EF 100-400 mm f/ 4.5-5.6 L IS USM  is a professional L-series telephoto zoom lens, equipped with an optical image stabilizer, for Canon EOS digital and film cameras.

Equivalent focal length for APS-C cameras:  160-640 mm.

The built-in 3-stop image stabilizer makes it possible to shoot in low-light-level conditions at shutter speeds up to 1/60.

The aperture has eight blades. Bokeh is rather pleasant and slightly sharp at focal lengths from 100 to 250 mm.

The focal length change is not exercised by the frame ring rotation; a push-pull principle is applied, instead, i.e.  the lens length is changed by pulling or pushing the frame. It should be noted that the push-pull method  increases the efficiency of focal length change, but you need some time to get accustomed to it.

The Canon EF 100-400 mm f/ 4.5-5.6 L IS USM produces a somewhat soft picture when shooting wide open. From f/7.1 onward it is very sharp through the entire range of focal lengths.

The lens is well balanced especially when used on Mark series cameras and enables long handheld shooting.

The optical system includes one Super UD glass element and one fluorite element. The fluorite glass element is ground out of individually-grown soft crystals of optical fluorite. Due to these elements, aberrations are very well corrected: there is almost no distortion, vignetting or chromatic aberrations visible throughout the entire range of focal lengths.

The Canon EF 100-400 mm  f/ 4.5-5.6 L IS USM  is well resistant to back and side light especially with a hood.

Focusing is internal. The front lens does not rotate, which enables the use of a polarizing or gradient filter. Manual adjustment of sharpness is possible at any time by turning the focus ring.

Color  rendering is natural, colors are  saturated. Image contrast ranges from medium to high.

The built-in ultra-sonic motor makes focusing fast and silent.  It features steady focusing even in low-light-level conditions, and the stabilizer enables shooting at rather slow shutter speed.

The Canon EF 100-400 mm  f/ 4.5-5.6 L IS USM is ideally fit as a travel and photojournalism lens, as well as for shooting animals, wild life, remote fragments and sportive events. It is better to use it with full-frame sensors.

The lens is compatible with Canon extenders:  EF 1.4X and EF 2.0X.

Compatible hood: ET 83C

The lens comes completed with a hood and a soft case. .
