The Canon FDn 85 mm f/1.2 Lis an ultra fast portrait prime lens for cameras with the New FD bayonet mount. This is a second, later version of the Canon FD 85 f/1.2 S.S.C Aspherical. Being the first telephoto lens with a floating lens system, it was a technological breakthrough.
The lens is quite sharp, and for its age it handles back lighting perfectly well.
Many photographers consider it the world's number 1 portrait lens. It should be noted yet that the lens differs from the present EF 85 1.2 L USM in its optical formula. The FD 85 F/1.2 L lens generates a more balanced and quiet picture. Its optical performance is superb.
The lens was popular with astronomers.
It can be used on modern SLR cameras only after professional adaptation of its rear part, but since the advent of mirrorless cameras, on which it can be easily mounted, the lens has become immensely popular and is still enhancing.
As of 2012, its price was 113,000 yen (approx. 1,500 $)
