The SMC Pentax SOFT 85mm f/2.2 is a fast soft focus portrait prime lens for 35 mm Pentax K SLR cameras.

The lens is very unusual: the pictures taken with it are quite unique, as is its exterior, unlike to other Pentax cameras.

Its general use is portrait photography. Its optical formula has been designed in the way that the image gets softer on widening the aperture, i.e. the aperture ring controls both the aperture and image sharpness. The lens is very soft at f/2.2, getting rather sharp at f/5.6. The center is sharper than corners. The aperture ring has no click stops, so the image sharpness can be precisely controlled. The pictures taken with this lens are very peculiar and pleasant even when compared to other soft lenses.
