The Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD ASL (IF) MACRO (Model A14) is an all-purpose compact 11x zoom lens with a wide range of focal lengths for digital SLR APS-C cameras only. This is the lightest, cheapest and most compact lens in its class. The optical scheme of the lens includes three hybrid aspherical elements, two LD elements, and one XR element. Outer optical surfaces are coated to minimize flare and halation.
Macrography is available at the minimum focus distance of 45 cm with a max. magnification of 1:3.7 at 200mm.
Internal focusing eliminates the front element rotation, which enables the use of a polarized filter and a petal hood. The Tamron AF 18-200 mm f/ 3.5-6.3 Di II XR LD Aspherical (IF) Macro features the zoom lock mechanism, which prevents barrel extension under its own weight when the lens is directed downwards.

Evaluation of Tamron designations:
-
AF - autofocus
-
Di II (Digitally integrated) - optimized for digital cameras with APS-C sized sensors only (max. 24x16 mm)
-
XR - Extra Refractive Index glass can bend light rays at steeper angles, thereby decreasing the physical length of the lens while enhancing imaging performance by minimizing optical aberrations
-
LD - "Low Dispersion" elements decreasing aberrations and increasing contrast
-
ASL - one or several aspherical lenses
-
IF - internal focusing (the lens does not extend, the front element do not rotate)
-
MACRO - macrography with a magnification ratio of 1:4 and more
