The Tamron SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD (Model A005) is a high-quality telephoto zoom lens, equipped with an image stabilizer and a full-fledged ring-type ultrasonic motor AF drive with full time manual focusing.
By its 60th anniversary Tamron had released its first lens with the new Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD) and reached international standards of focusing speed and accuracy. Autofocus operates on Nikon low-end DSRL cameras, as well.
The optical scheme of the Tamron SP 70-300 mm f/ 4-5.6 Di VC USD employs one LD element and one XLD glass element, whose optical properties are close to fluorite. The new Broadband multilayer Anti-Reflection (BBAR) coating is applied to reduce flare and ghosting. Besides, Tamron applies coatings on the lens inner surfaces.
The lenses with the Sony bayonet mount are not equipped with an image stabilizer and VC designation, as Sony digital SLR cameras already have a built-in Anti-shake function.
Evaluation of Tamron designations:
-
SP (Super Performance) - highest quality (as compared to Tamron standard lenses) professional lenses lineup
-
Di (Digitally integrated) - optimized for full-format digital cameras
-
VC - Tamron 3-D Vibration Compensation stabilizer
-
LD - low dispersion glass minimizing aberrations and increasing contrast)
-
XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) - glass with lower dispersive properties similar to fluorite than standard LD
-
IF - internal focusing (the lens does not extend, and the front element does not rotate, which enables the use of a petal hood and a polarizing filter)
-
USD - Ultrasonic Silent autofocus Drive with full time manual focusing.
