Additional information:

The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5- 5.6 IS STM is standard zoom lens for DSLR APS-C format cameras. The lens was announced on March 21, 2013 as a kit lens for the 100D/SL1/X7 camera.

The lens is equipped with a new AF stepping motor allowing full-time manual focus in AF mode and optimized for silent and smooth panning AF during video recording. The lens employs an internal focus design - the front element and filter do not rotate - and a high-speed processor and an optimized AF algorithm.

The optical scheme of the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM comprises 13 elements in 11 groups, including one high-precision aspherical element. The optical image stabilization offers an efficiency of up to 4 f-stops. An optimized Super Spectra coating is applied to the lens' elements to provide color balance and minimize flare and ghosting.

Despite the new optical design the lens still has its shortest length around the 30mm setting and extends both towards 18mm as well as 55mm. According to the first test results, the lens differs from the predecessor not only in high resolution, but also in a negligible drop in resolution towards the frame edges.

Price $250 and $150 if completed with a camera.
