The Canon EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USMis an inexpensive compact and light telephoto 3x zoom lens, released in 1990. It is still on display on the official American web site and sells at a tentative retail price of $470 (street price $280).
The Canon EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM has the system of internal rear focusing, which does not make the lens extend on focusing, on the one hand, and makes the front element nonrotating, on the other. It enables a convenient use of polarizing filters. The lens extends on zooming. Zooming involves five groups of elements. The USM provides fast and silent autofocusing. Full-time manual focusing is available any time without switching to MF.
