Additional information:
The Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM is a super telephoto prime lens for 35 mm SLR Canon EF cameras.
The optical scheme comprises 16 elements in 12 groups, including one UD glass element and two fluorine glass elements. Subwavelength structure coating has been designed for digital photography. Fluorine protective coating prevents the rear and front elements from smearing.
The image stabilizer offers a 4-stop shutter speed advantage and the new IS3 mode activates only when the shutter button is fully pressed. The IS2 mode enables the tripod detection during panning shots. The lens also features an ultrasonic AF motor with FTM, Power Focus mode, optimized for shooting video, a water- and dust-proof lens body, made of magnesium and titanium, and a drop-in gelatin filter holder. ET-138 (WII) lens hood and 500B soft pouch are included. The lens is compatible with Canon's EF1.4xII and EF2.0xII extenders.
The lens was announced in 2011 and has been manufactured since July 2012.
