The Nikon AF Nikkor 28mm F2.8 D is a compact and lightweight wide-angle prime lens at an easy rate.
The lens utilizes quite a new optical scheme - 6 elements in 6 groups. It is a fourth optical scheme of the 28/2.8 lens (previous schemes: 7/7 - K and Ai, 8/8 - Ai-S, 5/5 - E and AF).
The Nikkor AF-D 28 mm f/2.8 shows center sharpness ranging from good to excellent. The borders and corners when wide open are very soft, sharpness is lower than that at the center even on stopping down.
Vignetting is rather high at open apertures. Chromatic aberrations are visible and increase when stopping down, but they are easily corrected in post processing. Bokeh is not ideal.
