| Additional information:
The Olympus OM-System Zuiko Auto-S 50 mm f/ 1.8 is a standard classic kit lens of Olympus. It was manufactured for more than 30 years practically without modifications (there were 6 versions and 5 million such lenses manufactured in aggregate).
Being rather small, it features magnificent optical qualities. Olympus OM-System Zuiko Auto-S 50 mm f/ 1.8 is already sharp at f/1.8. It produces beautiful bokeh. Contrast is good, almost no optical distortions visible. Images have nice, natural colors. It is well resistant toback lighting, especially the MC version.
The Olympus OM-System Zuiko Auto-S 50 mm f/ 1.8 has very high resolution:
Resolution at f/ 2.8 (center/edge): 57/40 lpmm
Resolution at f/ 5.6 (center/edge): 90/40 lpmm
There are only 6 versions of this lens:
-
the Olympus M-System F =.Zuiko Auto-S f/=50 50 mm. F1.8
-
The Olympus OM-System F.Zuiko Auto-S 1:1.8 f=50 mm (type 1)- it may well be a variant with a silver fringe on the front
-
The Olympus OM-System F.Zuiko Auto-S 1:1.8 f=50 mm (type 2)— it can be identified with a black front frame.
-
The Olympus OM-System Zuiko MC Auto-S 1:1.8 f=50 mm (type 3)—both this variant and the rest are based on the same scheme - 6 elements in 4 groups. Multilayer coating was introduced.
-
The Olympus OM-System Zuiko Auto-S 50 mm 1:1.8 (type 4)— new multilayer.
-
The Olympus OM-System Zuiko Auto-S 50 mm 1:1.8 (type 5) — the last series manufactured byOlympus Sakaki. Serial numbers started with 5хххххх. This version is considered to be the best.

Comments:
This lens deserves mch more attention from photographers. I think mine is series 1: SN +500000. I got mine for only $45 in great condition: a steal of a deal. IMHO, the lens compares very well to the Leica, but has better colours for digital cameras. It is below the excellent level of my Zeiss Contas G 2.0/45 lens, but the difference is small: the Zeiss has higher resolving power (resolving power is need for the Sony A7R). Important for 36MP sensors: the F.Zuiko has the lowest CA of all Japanese lenses. Overall, the F.Zuiko is an excellent lens.
