Additional information:

The Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary is ultrafast ultrawide angle prime lens for mirrorless cameras.

Lens was released in 2017 and it was also the second budget-friendly fast aperture interchangeable optic made by Sigma for mirrorless Sony E-mount cameras.

Sharing its development concept with the SIGMA 30mm F1.4 DC DN / Contemporary, the 16mm F1.4 DC DN / Contemporary features a lens structure with 16 elements in 13 groups and includes fine materials. This lens effectively minimizes optical aberrations and offers superb resolution at wide-open aperture and throughout the aperture range. The optical design and stepping motor deliver smooth autofocus during video shooting, while the mount features a special sealing for a dust- and splash-proof design.

It is very useful in low-light situations, indoor and street shootings especially with Sony A6500 and Olympus E-M1 mirrorless cameras, however, in my own experience is not the best choice for mounting on a full frame mirrorless camera like the "Sony Alpha 7RII" since this lens is unable to cover the entire surface of the sensor, which eventually will result in obvious amount of noise on the picture.  So if you intend to use this lens on a full frame mirrorless camera, then, almost any 35mm SLR manual focus/wide-angle lens would work best, like a Canon FDn, Minolta MD Rokkor, Nikkor, etc.

About the LETTER DESIGNATIONS

SIGMA lenses with “DC” in the name are designed for optimal performance on cameras with APS-C image sensors. When a DC lens is used with a camera with a full-frame image sensor, vignetting will occur although it'd be not significate to my taste and even desirable in most cases. Optional advice would be adjusting image area settings for better image results. SIGMA lenses with “DN” in the name are designed for optimal performance on cameras with a short flange back distance.

Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Features:

  • A new system for mirrorless cameras
  • Bright prime functionality to experience photography at its best
  • Image quality rivaling that of our Sigma Art line lenses
  • The stepping motor delivers excellent autofocus with quiet performance.
  • Dust- and splash-proof design
  • Large lens hood (supplied) to keep out harmful rays
  • Designed to minimize flare and ghostin
  • Made in Aizu, Japan.

Cons.

  • No suitable for full frame mirrorless cameras.
  • Accentuated barrel distortion.
