Additional information:
The Canon EF 16-35 mm f/ 2.8 L USM is an ultrawide-angle lens equipped with an ultra-sonic motor which was designed to succeed an invariably successful EF 17-35mm f/2.8L USM. Though the previous version received a very high appraisal of expert photographers, a total expansion of digital cameras, which have smaller sensors, stressed the necessity of wide-angle lenses with even shorter focal length.
It is fully weather sealed. It has a reliable body, moisture and dust protection.
It is the first EF lens which includes 3 types of aspherical elements at once to combat aberration. Despite its zoom range of 16-35 mm, the lens delivers an excellent image quality.
The optical scheme of the lens has two super low dispersion elements for minimizing chromatic aberrations, typical of wide-angle lenses. Pictures taken with this lens feature a high contrast and high-quality image, as well as accurate color rendering. Due to internal focusing and a built-in ultra-sonic motor (USM), autofocusing is accurate, fast and almost silent. A circular aperture ensures attractive background (out of focus) blurring and provides accurate point light source rendering. A secondary aperture impedes superfluous light and improves image contrast.
The front lens does not rotate on autofocus, which may be convenient for attaching accessories, first of all, polarizers and gradients. There is a drop-in gelatin filter in the rear part of the lens.
There is a visible drop in resolution on the edges and slight vignetting when wide open.
The Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM is perfect for genre, landscape, interior and architecture photography.
Hood type: EW-83Е
The lens comes completed with a petal hood and a soft case.
