Nice for Portrait, sharp enough but not too contrast. Make pleasent skin tone.
Well built and reasonable price for vintage lens.
Weaknesses:
A little glow wide open but at f2 this lens shows it's potential.
Comments:
Buy one!
Well built
Rather compact and lighweight considering it is all metal. Aperture with half stops!
Very good grip of the aperture ring, not so good of the focusing
Stunning IQ in the absense of direct light. On a cloudy day colors and rendition very similar to Yashinon ML 50 1.7 (twin brother of Zeiss Planar 50 1.7 produced on the same plant)
Pleasant bokeh, especially for this price range and compact design
Widely underrated, so can be found for a decent price
Weaknesses:
Very prone to glow and strong veiling even with a long hood. As expected some flare but nothing dramatic
The focusing ring on a slippery side, the grooves are shallow and too tightly spaced
Cannot be used as a walkaround universal lens: amazing in dim or scattered light, close to terrible in bright sun = unpredictable results.
People online claim it is very sharp wide open - not my copy. F2.8 and up - yes
Comments:
I do not see any serious optical problems in my copy except for a light dust that shouldn't have such a dramatic effect on IQ. M.b. I got a lemon.
Bottom line - if the price is right, get one and try for yourself. Under right conditions it shines
