The SMC Pentax-M 50 mm f/ 2 is a standard fast lens with a proprietary multi-coating for 35 mm SLR Pentax K cameras.

The aperture ring and the following barrel part are plastic, though lenses with metal aperture rings may occasionally be found.

The aperture ring has half-stop markings ( f/2.8 to f/11).
