Additional information:

Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 180 mm f/ 2.8 C/Y - famous fast telephoto prime lens for a 35mm SLR with Contax/Yashica mount.

This lens is ideal for portrait shooting. Pictures is very light and soft  with beautiful Bokeh. Suitable also for other types of shooting specific to the focal length.

Lens Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 180mm f/2.8 very good uses for shooting against the light. There is a small built-in lens hood, but it is strongly recommended to use an external hood.

At open aperture  there is a noticeable vignetting, but for the portraits  it is not a problem.

The build quality is excellent. Focusing is very smooth.

There were two versions of the  Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 180mm f/2.8 lens. The optical design was the same, but apparently used lenses with different sizes or with different coating, because  MTF-charts are different (see attached pictures). Rim constructively a little different.

Differences:

Version 1. Catalogue number 101 086

Weight: 985gr. Maximum diameter of the rim: 82mm.

Later version 2. Catalogue number 101 117

Weight: 815gr. Maximum diameter of the rim: 78mm.

I.e. a later version is a little more compact and easier. The length of the same.

Bakin 1.1.2000 00:00:01
Period of use: 6 months

Strengths:
  • A very volume, the air picture.
  • Resistant to backlit and side light.
  • Stunning image and bokeh.
  • Very compact size for this focal length.

    Weaknesses:

    • Because of a long focal length has to photograph the far away from the model that complicates communication.
    • A little expensive on the secondary market.

    Comments:

Simply amazing lens.  One of the best portrait lens of all times and peoples in my opinion. Found - take it!
