Canon EF 24-70 mm  f/ 2.8 L USM Lens

The Canon EF 24-70 mm  f/ 2.8 L USM  is one of the best all-purpose  fast kit zoom lenses for Canon EOS film and SLR cameras.

This lens succeeded a very popular Canon  EF 28-70 f/2.8L USM, which had been produced since 1993.

Alongside with the EF16 - 35 mm f/2.8L USM and the EF 70 - 200 mm f/2.8L USM, the lens forms the Canon f/2.8L lineup of professional zoom lenses

It is dust and moisture protected.

The optical scheme includes two aspherical elements and one UD glass element, which has a positive effect upon color, contrast and aberration minimization.

Pictures taken with this lens are very bright with saturated colors and good detailing across the frame. There are considerable drops in resolution visible at the corners when shooting at wide angle.

It is already sharp from f/2.8 onward.

All the optical components of the Canon EF 24-70 f 2.8 L USM are made of pure glass and lead-free.

The electromagnetic diaphragm (EMD), a new Canon product, has a virtually circular aperture, which makes out-of-focus blur better.

An updated built-in ring-type ultra-sonic motor (USM) makes focusing fast and silent. Focusing is internal, the rear part elements rotate. Manual focusing can be switched on at any time by turning the focus ring.

The front part of the frame does not rotate during focusing, which enables the use of special attachments, as well as gradient and polarizing filters.

The Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM has a very convenient range of focal lengths  (from wide-angle to portrait) and is useful for many types and genres of photography, especially for those requiring efficiency. This is a very good lens for travelers. It is ideally fit for video shooting on modern SLR cameras.

The lens has a rather large size and heavy weight (especially with its large hood).
