I finally got one, many thanks to a friend, Kitaman, on the OTHER manual focus group. He found this in a thrift shop and sold it to me.

Here it is beside its 135/2.8 mate in the Adaptamatic line -

I wanted this for my Tamron Adaptamatic collection. As it happens, I have also recently aquired the 24mm of the line, leaving me to find just the monster 200-500mm zoom, which is not uncommon, but is usually very expensive; and a couple of weeks ago Krisgage found this 135/3.5 that I have never seen before -

This would be even more rare than the 105 !

Its an interesting lens. Like the other Adaptamatics it has a distinct style, and of course the odd mounting system. This one though has a built-in hood and a more complex helical mechanism, with a non-rotating front element. I expect it was a more expensive lens than the 135. It seems to have come only in the rubber-grip version, which indicates later manufacture. This lens may have come at the end of the Adaptamatic line, just as Tamron was introducing the Adaptalls. Indeed, there are very well thought of Adaptall 105/2.5's. I think its possible that this may be a very similar or even identical optical formula to those Adaptall 105's.

Performance is excellent, by my standards anyway. I find it sharp at f/2.5 (to the limits of my sensor anyway), the bokeh is nice and smooth, it doesn't flare or misbehave shooting into the sun, focus is easy and quick, etc. It does quite a good job also on extension rings. It would be interesting to see if this is similar to the Adaptamatic versions. And it would be interesting to compare this to the Nikkor 105 !

Wow~
What's its maximum magnification ratio?

Congrats ! It seems to be the common design of the lens body among the other Adapmatic lenses.

I finally got the 105mm adaptamatic myself about 5 weeks ago. I found it listed as a Tamron F mount. Very Happy

I see that with adaptamatics a lot, especially with the more rare ones.

Very nice! If I didn't already have the Tamron 90/2.5 Adaptall II macro and a Nikkor 105/2.5, I think I'd be jonesin' for one of these!

Impressive sharpness and excellent contrast. I wonder how close its optical formula is to the Nikkor? Recently I read that the Nikkor 105 used the Sonnar optical formula.

I have the Tamron 90mm 52b and 52BB and a Super Tak 105mm f2.8 and I was still jonesin' for one of these . . . until I find one. It didn't help several months ago that I blew a chance for one. Very Happy

The specs on the 105mm are 4 elements in 4 groups and the minimum focus distance is 1 meter. I don't know the magnification.

According to this resource: http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/lenses.html the Nikkor 105/2.5 has different optical formula - 5 lenses in 3 or 4 groups than this Tamron - 4 lenses in 4 groups.
