The Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM is a compact wide-angle full format prime lens. It was first equipped with a 4-stop ring-type image stabilizer.

The Canon EF 24 mm f/ 2.8 IS USM is ideally fit for landscape and candid photography; it delivers exceptional flexibility and allows photographers to choose a wider range of subjects and scenes for shooting. Coupled with a large aperture ratio, the 4-stop image stabilizer  ensures accurate results when shooting handheld even in low-light-level conditions.

The lens has had an optical scheme fully redesigned to improve image quality and reduce the needs of postproduction editing. The optical scheme utilizes moulded aspherical  elements for correction aberrations. The optimized Super Spectra lens coating is used for minimizing glare and halation.

Large apertures ratio make each lens perfectly fit for shooting fast moving subjects, while Canon advanced technologies are able to detect intentional panning movement and switch from the Normal IS mode to the Panning IS mode, enabling the user to capture movements with high accuracy.

The ring USM and optimized AF control provide silent and high-performance autofocusing. The FTM can make corrections even during autofocusing operations, and even at a 0.2 m minimum focal distance it enables photographers to make subjects look bigger.

Outwardly, the Canon EF 24 mm f/ 2.8 IS USM f/ 2.8  can boast the resemblance with the Canon professional L-series - similar fit and finish of the body and similar focus ring design. The lens is equipped with a distance scale, which may be useful for landscape photography. A compact design makes the lens an unobtrusive part of any photo kit.

The lens delivers good sharpness when wide open. The center shows maximum sharpness at f/4,  the edges are sharp at f/5.6. High resolution is maintained up to f/16. At maximum aperture settings the lens shows vignetting of 3.81 stops.  Pincushion distortion of 1,22% is easily corrected.
