Additional information:

The Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 28 mm  f/ 2 Z

  • Angular field, diag./horiz./vert.: 74°/65°/45°
  • Coverage at close range:18 х 12 cm (1:5)
  • Aperture step 1/2 stop
  • Diameter 64 mm

It is equipped with the precision mechanism of focusing with the wide angle of ring rotation. The Т*-coating suppresses flare, scattered light, and provides  good and warmer color rendering. An almost circular aperture produces a harmonious bokeh. It is remarkable for its solid and durable full-metal brass casing with a chromium-plate bayonet. The front element does not rotate while focusing. The focusing distance data are not transmitted to the  camera. There is a DOF scale on the lens, depending on aperture settings. It was elaborated in Germany, but is made in Cosina (www.cosina.co.jp), Japan, under quality control of the Carl Zeiss.

The Z-series Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2/28 merits:

  • superb build quality of the full-metal Zeiss (brass with chromium-plated brass front bayonet)
  • excellent image quality at the center of the frame
  • very good image quality on the edges
  • low level of chromatic aberrations
  • low distortion
  • no astigmatism to speak of
  • good handling of bright back light
  • metal hood included

The Z-series Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2/28 flaws:

  • considerable vignetting at the maximum aperture
  • visible coma

The Z-series Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2/28 lens is produced for the following bayonet mounts:

  • ZE - for the EF bayonet mount  (Canon)
  • ZF - for the F bayonet mount (Nikon or Fuji)
  • ZF.2 - for the F bayonet mount with the processor (Nikon or Fuji)
  • ZK - for the K bayonet mount  (Pentax or Samsung).  The production ceased in September, 2010

The peculiarities of the Z-series lenses with various bayonets:

  • ZE series - the aperture is controlled from the camera. The lens is not equipped with an aperture ring. All automatic modes  P, Tv, Av, M, as well as autofocus confirmation, are functional. The focal length and aperture values are transmitted to the camera. Some functions of AF lenses (A-DEP, scenes) are not supported.
  • ZFseries - lenses with manual focusing without the processor are not equipped with the AI aperture interface. Exposure adjustment and controls are possible with all the appropriate cameras. When using this series on cameras without the AI, the aperture is closed up to the  preselected value, but metering and automatic control are not possible.
  • ZF.2series - both manual control with an aperture ring and camera control (therefor the aperture should be set at the maximum orange-colored value, and the camera will function in every automatic mode) are available. For cameras without electronic interface the aperture is set manually.
  • ZK series - lenses with manual focusing corresponds to the КА standard. In addition, the lenses are equipped with  electronic contacts. Besides, the aperture ring may be locked in automatic mode (green "А"). Thus, the control of exposure and various parameters (time, aperture, and program mode) is available with these cameras.
