Owner reviews: Yashica ML 100 mm f/ 3.5

Graham 25.03.2015 08:03:49
Period of use: 3 years

Strengths:
  • Exceptional sharpness
  • Build quality
  • Matches Zeiss 100mm Macro for quality of images
  • Allows macro from a distance so good for natural history

Weaknesses:

  • 1:2 Macro
  • Requires 2 Extension Tubes (20mm+27mm) for 1:1 unlike the ML 55 2.8 which only needs the 27mm

Comments:

A superb lens and one of the gems in the Yashica ML range.  Blisteringly sharp with very even illumination, it is very smooth in operation and the all-metal body and mount inspire confidence.  It also functions as a very fine portrait lens too.  It is a little cumbersome when you add the #2 & #3 Contax or Yashica Extension Tubes for 1:1 but is still lighter than the Zeiss 60 2.8 S-Planar or Zeiss 100 f2.8 Makro Planar.
