The Sony 70-400mm f/4-5.6 G SSM (SAL-70400G) is a high-quality telephoto zoom lens featuring a wide range of focal lengths and silent autofocusing, which makes it convenient for shooting sporting events and wild life photography. G tag in the lens name indicates high quality and reliable mechanism of the lens. The optical scheme of the lens includes ED glass elements to increase image sharpness and minimize chromatic aberrations.
The lens features convenient controls, including a focus modes switch, a focus range limiter, and three focus hold buttons to instantly quit AF mode when composing a photo.
After focusing you can manually tweak focus with a focus ring. Original teleconverters on the Sony 70-400mm f/4-5.6 G (SAL-70400G) can operate in manual mode only. Some third party teleconverters enable the use of the lens in AF mode as well. The lens hood has a gap which allows you to adjust a polarizing filter with the hood attached.
The Sony AF 70-400 mm f/ 4-5.6 SAL-70400G is equipped with the ADI-compatible distance encoder system for a flash, whose algorithm was designed by Minolta for precise light dosage depending on subject reflectance and background illumination. ADI-TTL is supposed to be used when a flash is directed to a subject, which corresponds at most to the task of shooting remote subjects.
