The Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX AF 50-135 mm f/2.8 (IF)is a fast zoom with constant lens speed throughout the entire range for digital SLR Canon EF-S and Nikon DX APS-C cameras and cannot be used for FF cameras. It was meant as a70-200 mm equivalent for cropped cameras, but lighter and more compact.

The front element of the Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX AF 50-135 mm f/ 2.8 (IF)has a new WR coating (Water Repellent Optical Coating), facilitating cleaning of the front element from fingerprints and stains (water drops) in comparison with other standard multicoatings.  The optical scheme includes three SD elements to eliminate chromatic aberrations.

TheTokina AT-X 535 PRO DX AF 50-135 mm f/ 2.8 (IF)  is equipped with the so called One-touch Focus Clutch Mechanism, i. e. the choice between manual focusing and auto-focusing modes is realized with one touch.  In order to switch  autofocus mode you should slightly shift the focus ring  forward.  To engage manual focusing the focus ring should be shifted back to the camera.  Switching requires some effort and is followed with a click sound.  While switching, it is possible to defocus.

The lens body has a built-in tripod adapter. The lens is not moisture or dust resistant. 

Pros:   The Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX AF 50-135 mm f/2.8 :

  • excellent image quality in the center at all apertures,
  • very good image quality on the edges,
  • slight chromatic aberration at medium focal lengths,
  •  coma and astigmatism are well corrected,
  • high-quality of assembly,
  • tripod adapter and hood included.

Cons: The Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX AF 50-135 mm f/2.8 :

  • not a full frame
  • flare when shooting against bright light,
  • slow, loud and not very accurate autofocus.

Evaluation of  Tokina designations:

  • AT-X (advanced technology extra) - the lens is designed by means of  advanced and new technologies and high-quality materials.
  • PRO - models with this designation have an aluminum coating to improve its reliability and have an ergonomic look corresponding with its high quality.  
  • AF for autofocus.
  • DX - for digital SRL Canon EF-S APS-C and Nikon DX  APS-C cameras only.  
  • IF - internal focusing (the lens does not extend, the front element do not rotate).  
  • SD - Super Low Dispersion glass is used to minimize aberrations and increase contrast.
