Owner reviews: Carl Zeiss Jena DDR Tessar 50 mm f/ 2.8

NerveNet 10.11.2020 14:32:22
Period of use: 8 months

Strengths:
  • Cheap: 23 euro
  • Small
  • Lightweight
  • All metal construction
  • Moderatelly fast aperture (f/2.8)
  • Nice color rendition
  • Sharp at f/5.6
  • Smooth focusing ring
  • Can be declicked easlily

Weaknesses:

  • Soft at f/2.8 but usable
  • Only 5 aperture blades

Comments:

Standard 50mm focal length with moderate f/2.8 aperture for less than 25 euros. All made of metal but not heavy.

This Tessar was meant for black and white photography but you will also get nice color results.

I got the best results at f/5.6 but wide open pictures are usable but a bit soft in center.

Focusing ring is smooth and works great for manual focus operation.
