Owner reviews: Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 55 mm f/ 1.8

Period of use: 10 days

Strengths:

All the PROs listed above are 100% true

Mechanically better than Super-Multi-Coated 7-element Tak 50 1.4

Half-stops

Buttery smooth focusing with longer throw than the 50 1.4 and tactile feedback similar to the preset Tak 50 f4 macro. Semi-erotic experience...

Dirt cheap

Weaknesses:

None

Comments:

Stunning image quality on Fuji X-E2, pretty much a Leica territory. As someone said "this should be the legendary normal range Takumar, not the 50 1.4". I do like the IQ of the Super-Multi-Coated 7-element Tak 50 1.4 on Fiji X-E2 but the Super-Multi-Coated Tac 55 1.8 and Super-Multi-Coated Tac 50 4 macro are really special. I have K-mount Pentax-A 50mm 1.2, SMC Pentax-M 50mm 1.7, Pentax-FA 50mm 1.4 and while my copies are not bad lenses by any standards, they do not live up to their reputation neither on Pentax K-5 nor on Fiji X-E2. Those 2 Tacs certainly do!
