The MC Volna-3 80 mm f/ 2.8(Russian: "Волна") is a high-quality kit lens with multi-coating for the Kiev-88, the Kiev-90 and the Kiev-60 cameras. It can be used on digital cameras in manual mode via the appropriate adapter. It succeeded the Vega-12

The export version was labeled the MC Volna-3 2.8/80

The Volna-3 80 mm f/ 2.8 generates rather beautiful and flexible image: good volume, sufficient sharpness of key areas and noble bokeh.

The МС Volna-3 80 mm f/2.8 is a predictable and reliable lens in terms of the final result. Focusing is accomplished by rotating the focusing ring.

On modern SRL cameras the Volga-3 functions as a good portrait lens. Regarding quite a low price on the secondary market, we have a very decent variant of a portrait lens in the price-facilities relationship.

It does not hold back and side light well enough, which is corrected by the use of a hood.

The first two figures of a serial number stand for the year of production.

Period of use: 1 year

Strengths:

Slightly soft wide open, VG for portraits, razor sharp from f4;
pseudo 3-D image;
nice bokeh;
no vignetting in FF and crop ));
build quality, very smooth focus, well-defined movement of aperture ring;
lightweight.

Weaknesses:

Low contrast in backlight (in spite of MC, need hood);
colors tend to red and brownish.

Comments:

It is my favorite lens, I use it with MF and croped Sony SLT A55V also. This is versatile lens, not for portraits only, I use stiching software for landscapes, it is excellent sharp at infinity. I found the sharpness to be excellent on my Kiev 60 MF and my Sony A55V croped digital. It can easy produces a pseudo 3D effect in close and middle distances. I like its smooth bokeh.

If you have the opportunity to pickup this lens used don't pass it up.
