Additional information:

The Tamron SP AF 70-200 mm  f/ 2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro (Model A001)  is a fast telephoto zoom lens.

Attention! The variant for Nikon can only function on cameras equipped with a built-in screwdriver motor.

This is the lightest lens in its class with the closest  focusing distance (0.95m).

When used on APS-C cameras (crop factor), the equivalent focal length is 112 - 320 mm.

The minimum aperture ratio of f/2.8 enables shooting in low lighting conditions without a tripod or a flash.

It shows good sharpness at f/2.8. And it is very sharp from f/4 onwards.

The 9-blade aperture produces rather beautiful out-of-focus blur (bokeh).

The lens is not equipped with an ultrasonic motor. Focusing is rather noisy and slow, especially in poor lighting conditions, which makes the lens of little use for fast candid photography. However, the lens is perfect  for any other types of photography.

The Tamron SP AF 70-200 mm f/2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro is not equipped with an image stabilizer.

Image quality is up to the mark: beautiful color and good contrast; well corrected chromatic aberrations; insignificant distortion, vignetting and coma; average astigmatism.

For a convenient use of polarizing and gradient filters the front lens is non-rotating.

The lens comes complete with a petal hood, a tripod mount and a soft case.

Autofocus does not function correctly with outer cross-type focus sensors on Canon EOS 40D, 50D, 60D, 7D cameras.

In 2012 a version equipped with an image stabilizer and ultrasonic motor was announced

Owner reviews: Tamron SP AF 70-200 mm  f/ 2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro

camel 1.1.2000 00:00:01
Period of use: 1 month

Strengths:

Low price. Image quality: color, contrast. Beautiful bokeh. Qualitative constructive. Light for its class. A very small minimum focusing distance (0.95 m). Hand-lapping AF (originally implemented - not an ordinary switch, and a permutation of the focus ring).

For its price gives excellent picture quality.

Weaknesses:

No stabilizer and an ultrasonic motor.

Rather slow and noisy focusing.

Comments:

For its price is very good lens, the picture quality is almost not inferior, and in some respects superior to its competitors such as Nikkor and Canon, which is 2-3 times more expensive (!). These disadvantages in certain situations and when used properly, can be compensated
