Owner reviews: Isco-Göttingen Edixa-Iscotar 50 mm f/ 2.8

panoramapeople 21.06.2015 22:38:21
Period of use: 9 months

Strengths:

Solid made, but simple triplet. Great glass quality, very sharp. Good usability, light, small, automatic aperture.

Weaknesses:

Front moves while focusing, the Iris is limited to f16.

Comments:

Sold as Iscotar, Edixa-Iscotar and for export as Iscovitar. This lens is made of aluminium and often mistakingly named as the first plastic isco. Solid and sharp allround 50 for a low price. Lower contrast than modern MC lenses. It's similar designed but faster brother is named "Westromat 1.9/50", both available as M42 and EXA mount. Released in 1963/1964.

It is possible to override the close focus by removing a screw. Min focus closes up to 0.5m then.
