Nikon Nikkor 28 mm  f/ 2.8 Ai-S Lens

The Nikon Nikkor 28 mm  f/ 2.8 Ai-S  is a wide-angle lens for Nikon film and digital cameras. 

The lens is remarkable for its high sharpness, short minimum focusing distance, and almost complete absence of linear distortion.

The lens is already sharp at f/2.8 even on DX cameras. It is very sharp from f/4 onwards. The lens is well resistant to back light, but in bright light conditions there may be  drops in contrast. It is recommended to use it with the HN-2 hood (using the alternative HN-3 hood may result in vignetting at the borders of a full frame image on FX and film cameras).

Vignetting, which is invisible on DX format cameras, is discernible when wide open.

The lens features the system of Close Range Correction, which provides excellent sharpness even when focusing at a minimum distance.

Due to the use of the optical scheme comprising many elements (8 elements in 8 groups), the lens, as for its optical characteristics, excels both the previous Ai-version and  AF 28/2.8 and AF 28/2.8D lenses.

The Nikon Ai-S Nikkor 28 mm f/2.8 may be used as a kit lens on DX cameras. In this case the equivalent focal length is 42 mm.
