The latest Canon EF 300 mm f/ 2.8 L IS II USM, released in 2010, is a professional high-quality telephoto lens, ideal for shooting sporting events and wildlife. As compared with the 1997 variant, the optical scheme has been fully redesigned, the lens is equipped with a new image stabilizer and new magnesium body with titanic parts. New autofocus algorithms and a new processor have been introduced.
The two fluorite glass elements minimizes chromatic aberrations, providing high resolution and contrast. The Super Spectrа lens coating is optimized for each element depending on its type and position. SubWavelength Coating (SWC), more minute than the wavelength of visible light, prevents ghosting and flare caused by reflected light. The front and rear elements utilize fluorite water repellent coating for preventing dust and dirt.
A new 4-stop IS features update Mode 2 for panning. Mode 3 has been introduced: it enables fast switching from one subject to another, as this mode activates the stabilization only when the shutter button is pressed. A new Power Focus mode is useful for video filming: it enables fine focus adjustment during video recording by turning the focus ring.
The set of special tripod mounts allows you to use a long or a short mount for monopods or tripods. A new swinging mechanism of a tripod mount secures a smooth change of portrait and landscape lens orientations Links to online resources: PDF Files: Posted by: dv Date of publication: 16.10.2010
