The Sigma AF 150mm F2.8 EX APO DG HSM Macro is a high quality telephoto macro lens. This lens has a plane field of the front lens and is able to take correct pictures of plane objects, both a small stamp and a big picture will be sharp from the center towards the corners. The lens can be successfully used for portraiture, as well In 2011 the lens got an optical stabilizer and correspondingly the OS designation.
It has an hyper sonic motor AF drive, and autofocusing is fast and silent. Two SLD elements ensure color rendering and high sharpness. Super multi-coating reduces flare and halation. Fast lens speed for such a focal length has been retained, but at 180 mm it falls to f/3.5.
Resolution is high from open aperture onward, ant it reaches its maximum at f/4 at the center and at f/5.6 on the edges. Chromatic aberrations do not exceed 0.04% at any aperture, i.e. invisible. Distortion is almost negligible. Coma and astigmatism are very well corrected. Vignetting at f/4 reduces to 9%. It is resistant to back light even without a hood, slightly reducing contrast. And what's more, it has a fast and silent autofocus, but nonideal accuracy.
The Sigma AF 150mm F2.8 EX APO DG HSM Macro is equipped with a 3-mode focus limiter. Besides a full-range mode, two limited modes are available from 38 to 52 cm and from 52 cm to infinity.
In 2010 a new stabilized all-weather version of the lens was released with the retail price of $ 1600.
Evaluation of Sigma designations:
-
AF for autofocus.
-
APO- an apochromatic lens, minimizing chromatic aberration. Lenses designated APO can be used with EX teleconverters.
-
HSM - a hyper sonic motor AF drive providing silent and fast focusing.
-
EX - a high-quality line of lenses, combining reliability, convenience and excellent optical characteristics.
-
IF - a mechanism of internal focusing does not affect the lens size while focusing and without the front element rotation.
-
DG - a full format lens optimized for DSRL cameras.
-
MACRO - macrography with the max. magnification ratio of 1:1
