The new 2010 Tamron SP AF 60mm F2 Di II LD (IF) Macro (Model G005) lens is the first medium telephoto lens with such a large aperture of f/2.0 (one stop larger than ordinary macro lenses of this class) for digital SLR APS-C cameras (max. frame size 16x24 mm). The optical scheme employs 14 elements in 10 groups, including two big LD glass elements. The lens features eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating, eliminating flare and ghosting.

The Tamron SP AF 60mm f/2 Di II LD (IF) Macro employs an ordinary AF / MF switch to select between manual and autofocusing modes, however, the lens also offers FTM (full time manual) focus operation. The focus ring does not rotate in AF mode. The broad focus ring facilitates precise focusing in MF mode. Due to internal focusing the Tamron SP AF 60mm f/2 Di II LD (IF) Macro does not extend and the front element does not rotate during focusing operations, which enables the use of polarizing filters. The lens is equipped with a micro-motor autofocus drive. There is no AF range limiter. The lens is remarkable for its compact size and low weight.

The manufacturer offers the 5-year free warranty in Europe and the 6-year limited warranty for the products officially imported and sold by the authorized dealer in the USA. The 5-year warranty extends to all Tamron lenses officially imported to the Russian Federation and purchased after September 1, 2010.  In order to get warranty you should get registered at the Tamron European website within two months after the lens purchase.  The warranty is valid only for the first registered buyer.

Autofocus does not function correctly with outer cross-type focus sensors on Canon EOS 40D, 50D, 60D, 7D cameras.

Evaluation of  Tamron designations:

  • SP - super performance
  • AF - autofocus
  • Di II (Digitally Integrated) - optimized for APS-C sized sensors only
  • LD - "Low Dispersion" elements decreasing aberrations and increasing contrast
  • IF - internal focusing (the lens does not extend, the front element does not rotate)
  • Macro - macro mode with a max. magnification ratio of 1:1 (without rings)
