The Konica Hexanon AR 40 mm f/1.8 is a fast lens for SLR cameras with the Konica AR bayonet mount.
In the late 70s there appeared a new trend for compact lenses. It is then when the term "flat lens" first appeared. Primarily, it was about lenses with a focal length of about 40 mm.
The Konica Hexanon AR 40 mm F/ 1.8 belongs to this type of lenses. It is very compact and pocket-size. It came as a standard lens for Konika SLR cameras.
Image quality of the Konica Hexanon AR 40 mm f/ 1.8 used to be tremendous. Many photo magazines nicknamed this lens as the sharpest ever for a 35 mm camera. Besides, high sharpness is retained at all edges. Contrast is also high across the whole frame.
Due to a small flange focal distance, it is hard to use on modern SLR cameras(modification for bayonet mount required), but it can be easily used on mirrorless cameras.
