The Porst Color Reflex Auto 55 mm f/ 1.4 isa fast normal lens with an instant-return aperture for 35 mm SRL cameras with the M42 screw mount.
There were three versions of this lens.

The first was equipped with a metal focusing ring with vertical knurls and had a single-layer coating.

The second was equipped with a rubber-coated focusing ring with fine knurls and had a single-layer or multilayer coating.

The third was equipped with a rubber-coated focusing ring with square blocks and had a multilayer coating.
Porst is a German distributing company. It simply gave brand name to the lenses. The manufacturer of the Porst Color Reflex Auto 55 mm f/ 1.4 lens was a Japanese optic company -Tomioka Kōgaku K.K. (at present Kyocera Optec Co., Ltd.). The analogous lens was produced under the brand name of Tomioka, as well.
The Porst Color Reflex Auto 55 mm f/ 1.4, as well as other Tomioka lenses, is remarkable for its very good mechanical and optic quality.
The generated image is soft and flexible with open aperture, and very sharp on stopping down.
Image colors are natural and beautiful; not in vain is this feature reflected in the lens brand name.
The lens is not well resistant to ambient light (e. g. from the window) - contrast declines, as well as to side and back light. It is recommended to use it with a hood.
The Porst Color Reflex Auto 55 mm f/ 1.4 may be used for portrait, artistic and effects photography with shallow depth of field as well as a universal lens for an everyday usage.
